Since 2019
01One roaster
We have bought from the same roaster in Ballard since the first week. Consistency beats novelty when someone comes in every day.
Portland · Pearl District
Two espresso blends, four filter origins, and a room with north-facing windows. Open early, quiet by design.
How we work
Since 2019
01We have bought from the same roaster in Ballard since the first week. Consistency beats novelty when someone comes in every day.
Espresso
02A sweet, chocolatey house shot and a lighter seasonal one. If you like it today, it tastes the same next Tuesday.
Filter
03The filter bar keeps four coffees open and pours them by the cup, so nothing sits on a hotplate going flat.
What to order
The whole menu fits on one page, prices included — you should know what a flat white costs before you are standing at the till.
See the full menuHouse blend as standard. Ask for the seasonal and we will pull it instead.
Dark chocolate, not syrup
Four origins open at a time. Whatever is on is written above the bar.
Refills a dollar
Made to order, about four minutes
Order ahead
Put your order in before you leave the house and collect it from the end of the bar. Same coffee, same price, no line.
Collection only. We do not deliver, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
The room
Thirty-two seats, a long table down the middle, and a bench under the windows that holds the light from ten until two.
There is wi-fi, and no music loud enough to talk over. Laptops before eleven and after three; in between, the tables belong to whoever wants to sit and speak to someone.
Find us
Two blocks from the streetcar, north side of the street. Look for the awning, and the queue at eight.
